Severn Graphics has the capability to produce a high-resolution scan that will allow us to easily manipulate the fine art image until it is matched to the original art as close as possible.
We use a mounted 4 x 5 camera along with a BetterLight scan back, shot in properly calibrated studio lighting. With this equipment our scanning experts can capture millions of accurate colors with outstanding detail and clarity.
Superior resolution, coupled with the lack of film grain and accuracy of focus, exposure and tone control makes our scans superior in quality, superior to large format film of any other digital camera system.
BetterLight digital scanning backs do not capture an image of the subject in front of the camera all at once, but rather by physically moving a unique, highly-optimized tri-linear color image sensor smoothly across the image plane, building up the image one line per color at a time.
A large preview image is used on the computer to make adjustments for precise exposure, color balance and contrast before the final image is captured. Each customized exposure is based on the original color palette and lighting conditions to make the final image as accurate as possible for large format reproduction. Large format has always been the preferred camera for art reproductions, the larger the format, the better the reproduction of detail from the original. The more detail that is recorded from the original, the better that detail will be maintained in any size reproduction. From a small image on the internet to a high quality giclee reproduction. We can also scan various sizes. From a small 4″ x 5″ image up to 4′ x 8′. Anything larger can be scanned too, so just call us to inquire.
Digitizing artwork is the first and considerably the most important step in the process of recreating artwork or graphics that are for reproduction..Unless your artwork is already in digital form, we highly recommend and prefer to produce the digital capture in our studio.
Many years of experience and continued experience with some of the areas highest selling artists has provided us with the knowledge that the best results are produced when the scans are handled at our facility.
In addition to artwork, we scan daily items such as 4×5 negatives, slides, chromes, photographs, and drawings using xy flatbed scanning technology for advertising companies, national museums, and any clients that understand the importance of the high quality capture of images that are of an important one-of-a-kind nature.
We have plenty of artists who have come to us after getting scan work done from other places, and their testimonials and continued repeat business speak to our quality and unique attention to detail for this critical step.
